Academic Appointments 2008-2009Berufungen 2008-2009Appointments at the MDC/Joint AppointmentsThe MDC has established an official cooperation agreementwith the Humboldt University Berlin (HUB) and theFree University of Berlin (HUB) which permits jointappointments. Many of the scientists appointed to theMDC are interested in a joint appointment with one ofthe universities of Berlin. Through this academic link,they wish to participate actively in teaching as well asensure access to the Berlin universities for their Mastersand PhD students. The MDC and the Berlin universities,likewise, open up the possibility to their employees to dodoctoral studies and to qualify as lecturers and professorsin the corresponding Faculties.Since 2002, when the 5 th Amending Act of the FrameworkLaw Governing Universities (Hochschulrahmengesetz)went into effect, the MDC has been able to appoint juniorprofessors jointly with the Berlin Universities. Inrespect to the collaboration between the MDC and theHUB in 1994, a Supplementary Agreement was concludedin 2002 which allows for the appointment of juniorprofessors similar to the guidelines for joint appointmentsto conventional professorships. Likewise, the MDCsigned a Supplementary Agreement with the FUB inDecember 2002.In June 2003, the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlinbecame the common medical faculty of both the FUBand HUB and, since then, most of the appointments atthe MDC have been done in cooperation with the Charité,reflecting the close connection between the twoestablishments. Currently, the following joint MDC-Charité positions exist at the MDC: ten W3/C4 Professors,three W2/C3-Professors, and two Junior Professors.In addition, together with the FUB, the MDC has appointedtwo W3/C4-Professors and, with the HUB two W3/C4-Professors. Furthermore, 12 appointed scientists (W3/C4und W2/C3) from the Charité and one scientist (W3) fromthe HUB are simultaneously group leaders at the MDC.2008MDC Research Group Leader Dr. M. Cristina Cardoso hasaccepted an appointment to become a W3 professor ofmolecular cell biology in the biology department of theTechnical University Darmstadt. Viele der an das MDC berufenen Wissenschaftlerinnenund Wissenschaftler sind an einer gemeinsamenBerufung mit einer der Berliner Universitäten interessiert.Sie möchten durch diese akademische Anbindung aktiv ander Lehre teilnehmen, den Zugang für ihre Diplomanden/innenbzw. Doktoranden/innen zu den Berliner Universitätensichern und ihren Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiterndie Möglichkeit eröffnen, sich an den entsprechendenFakultäten zu promovieren und zu habilitieren.Seit 2002 kann das MDC, auf Grundlage des 5. Änderungsgesetzeszum Hochschulrahmengesetz, gemeinsam mitBerliner Universitäten Junior Professoren berufen. Auf derGrundlage der Vereinbarung über die Zusammenarbeitzwischen dem MDC und der HUB zu Berlin aus dem Jahre1994 wurde 2002 eine Ergänzungsvereinbarung abgeschlossen,die die Ernennung von Junior-Professoren analogder Leitsätze für gemeinsame Berufungen auf konventionelleProfessuren ermöglicht. Das MDC hat im Dezember2002 in gleicher Weise mit der FUB eine Ergänzungsvereinbarungbeschlossen.Seit der Gründung der Charité – UniversitätsmedizinBerlin als gemeinsame Medizinische Fakultät derFUB und der HUB im Juni 2003 erfolgen aufgrund derengen Kooperation von MDC und Charité die meistenBerufungen als gemeinsame Berufungen mit der Charité.Zur Zeit arbeiten am MDC insgesamt zehn gemeinsam mitder Charité berufene W3/C4-Professoren, drei W2/C3-Professorenund zwei Juniorprofessoren, zwei gemeinsam mitder FUB berufene W3/C4-Professoren und zwei gemeinsammit der HUB berufene W3/C4-Professoren und ein W2-Professor. Darüber hinaus sind 12 berufene Wissenschaftler(W3/C4 und W2/C3) der Charité und ein berufenerWissenschaftler (W3) der HUB gleichzeitig Forschungsgruppenleiteram MDC.2008MDC-Forschungsgruppenleiterin Dr. M. Cristina Cardosohat einen Ruf auf eine W3-Professur für Molekulare Zellbiologieim Fachbereich Biologie der Technischen UniversitätDarmstadt angenommen.
