Position tenure is to be no less than 36 mthsIAW Broderick Ph1 Recommend<strong>at</strong>ion 13.This is a welcome development.Recommend<strong>at</strong>ion 14: ADFA provide staff with appropri<strong>at</strong>e induction,educ<strong>at</strong>ion and training on:a) gender equality and <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> mixed genderenvironmentsb) pastoral, disciplinary and educ<strong>at</strong>ional practices relevant to<strong>the</strong> supervision and care <strong>of</strong> 17-23 year olds in a residentialsetting.Initial staff induction training should be supplemented by <strong>the</strong>cre<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> staff learning groups th<strong>at</strong> are built on appreci<strong>at</strong>iveinquiry. The learning groups should be facilit<strong>at</strong>ed by an expertfacilit<strong>at</strong>or in partnership with ADFA.Intent <strong>of</strong> Recommend<strong>at</strong>ionThe <strong>Review</strong> recognised th<strong>at</strong> some staff arriving <strong>at</strong> ADFA have limited experience in a training andeduc<strong>at</strong>ion environment with young people and indeed some have little, if any, experience working with<strong>women</strong>. This Recommend<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>at</strong>tempts to redress this issue and allow an opportunity to build skillsand awareness.Implement<strong>at</strong>ion actionsThe RIT st<strong>at</strong>es th<strong>at</strong> this Recommend<strong>at</strong>ion is partially implemented and th<strong>at</strong>:ADFA staff have been provided with appropri<strong>at</strong>e induction, educ<strong>at</strong>ion and training on genderequity and <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> mixed gender environments, including pastoral, disciplinary andeduc<strong>at</strong>ion practices relevant to <strong>the</strong> supervision and care <strong>of</strong> 17-23 year olds in a residentialsetting. Staff learning groups have largely focused around common functions and how eachgroup can build on success in <strong>the</strong>ir areas <strong>of</strong> responsibility.A comprehensive survey <strong>of</strong> each cadet’s assessment <strong>of</strong> all AMET training courses occurs <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong>end <strong>of</strong> a session <strong>of</strong> training. This survey provides feedback th<strong>at</strong> each staff learning group uses asa basis for <strong>the</strong> priorities for continuous improvement. 6858
