Thoroughly mix grout ingredients in quantities needed for immediate use in accordance withASTM C 476 for fine and coarse grout.B. Add admixtures in accordance with manufacturer's instructions; mix uniformly.C. Do not use anti-freeze compounds to lower the freezing point of grout.PART 3 EXECUTION3.01 PREPARATIONA. Apply bonding agent to existing concrete surfaces.B. Plug clean-out holes for grouted masonry with block masonry units. Brace masonry to resistwet grout pressure.3.02 INSTALLATIONA. Install mortar and grout to requirements of section(s) in which masonry is specified.B. Work grout into masonry cores and cavities to eliminate voids.C. Do not install grout in lifts greater than 16 inches without consolidating grout by rodding.D. Do not displace reinforcement while placing grout.E. Remove excess mortar from grout spaces.3.03 GROUTINGA. Low-Lift Grouting:1. Limit height of grout pours to 60 inches.2. Limit height of fresh masonry to 60 inches above each grout pour.3. Pour grout only after vertical and horizontal reinforcing is secured in place usingreinforcement positioners. Prevent displacement of bars as grout is poured.4. Place grout for each pour continuously and consolidate immediately; do not interrupt poursfor more than 1-1/2 hours.5. Stop grout pour 1 ½” below the top of masonry unit to form a key with the next pour, exceptat tops of walls.3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROLA. An independent testing agency will perform field tests, in accordance with provisions of Section01400.B. Test and evaluate mortar in accordance with ASTM C 780 procedures.1. Test frequency: Two tests for first 10,000 units laid. If acceptable, continue testing at twotests for every 50,000 units laid.C. Test and evaluate grout in accordance with ASTM C 1019 procedures.1.
