<strong>DOON</strong> <strong>UNIVERSITY</strong>, <strong>DEHRADUN</strong><br />

1. Conducting citizen surveys on waste management practices of commercial<br />

establishments on Bindal and Rispana rivers, Dehradun; Need assessment<br />

surveys of housing societies, organizing waste collection drives; doing case<br />

studies, advocacy work and participating in eco friendly practices under<br />

Swach Bharat Abhiyan, dealing with solid waste management.<br />

2. Conducting workshops on issues like Film Appreciation, Women Journalist<br />

Sensitization, Digital India, Climate Change, Solid Waste Management, Air<br />

pollution, Gender equality and Health.<br />

3. Promoting eco-friendly practices on campus and organizing campaigns like<br />

‘Say No to plastic’ and e-waste awareness and collection drive as a part of<br />

Green Campus Initiative.<br />

4. Conducting social surveys on government’s flagship schemes like RTI,<br />

RTE, MGNREGA, Vidhva Pension Scheme, Mid day meal, etc.<br />

5. Poster completions on the themes like Expressing India through Colors,<br />

Typography Day, Save Environment etc.<br />

3.6.2 How does the university promote university-neighbourhood network<br />

and student engagement, contributing to the holistic development of<br />

students and sustained community development?<br />

The University is committed to holistic and integrated education that aims at<br />

making students intellectually sharp, socially responsible, culturally creative,<br />

emotionally resilient and physically strong. The University has a well<br />

established Adopted Village project that works with neighbourhood villages in<br />

the areas of citizenship education, health awareness and women’s issues<br />

fostering reciprocal learning where both the students and the recipients of<br />

service benefit from suchactivities.<br />

Several students’ units also work with waste pickers’ organization and conduct<br />

awareness programs like waste segregations drives, use of eco-friendly<br />

products, reducing plastics in our daily lives etc.<br />

Poster exhibitions and street plays on the issue of environment, displacement,<br />

gender equality and sexual harassment have been conducted in the University<br />

and nearby villages as a part of disseminating awareness<br />

Important days like – Human Rights Day (December 10), Gandhi Jayanti<br />

(January 30), Independence Day (August 15) and special days and occasion<br />

with themes like Women’s rights, Child labour, Environmental Rights and<br />

Rights of people with disabilities are taken. These activities create awareness<br />

amongst students about issues of human rights, importance of the Indian<br />

Constitution, rights and duties of Indian citizens, and problems of vulnerable<br />

sections of society.<br />

3.6.3 How does the university promote the participation of students and<br />

faculty in extension activities including participation in NSS, NCC, YRC<br />

and other National/ International programs?<br />
