(Note: As per the DPR of the university the School has three departments<br />

under its purview. Department of Economics, Department of Social Work and<br />

Department of Psychology. However, only one department is on operation<br />

since 2010)<br />

2. Year of establishment:<br />

July 2010<br />

3. Is the Department part of a School/Faculty of the university?<br />

Yes, Department of Economics is part of School of Social Sciences, Doon<br />

University<br />

(Note: However, as per the mandate of the University, all the departments and<br />

schools ought to foster interdisciplinary learning and research. Therefore,<br />

although the Department of Economics is operationally governed as a part of<br />

School of Social Sciences, in the academic front, it supports and takes support<br />

from other departments and Schools such as School of Management, School of<br />

Environment and Natural Resources, School of Languages and School of<br />

Communication.)<br />

4. Names of programmes offered (UG, PG, M.Phil., Ph.D., Integrated<br />

Masters; Integrated Ph.D., D.Sc., D.Litt., etc.)<br />

The School currently offers three programmes as below.<br />

a) MA Economics -Two Years (Intake Capacity-20): Eligibility for Admission<br />

–through University Entrance after a Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized<br />

University<br />

b) MSc Economics -Five Years Integrated (Intake Capacity-60): Eligibility<br />

for Admission –through University Entrance after a 10+2 Degree from any<br />

recognized Board<br />

c) MPhil/PhD in Economics (Intake Capacity-3): Eligibility for Admission –<br />

through University Entrance after a Master’s Degree from any recognized<br />

University<br />

5. Interdisciplinary programmes and departments involved`<br />

At the current juncture, no academic discipline can remain truly isolated from<br />

other disciplines and the Department of Economics is no exception. Some<br />

elements of such inter disciplinary nature of the programmes and courses are<br />

as below.<br />

Mathematics, Statistics and Computers: Economics curriculum contains a<br />

significant coverage of quantitative techniques that require skills in<br />

mathematics, statistics and computation. Therefore, it becomes necessary for<br />

the department to rely of experts with these background both from other<br />

schools of the University as well as from outside the university.<br />
