CRITERION I: CURRICULAR ASPECTS<br />

1.1 Curriculum Design and Development<br />

Established by the Government of Uttarakhand by Doon University Act,<br />

2005 (Uttaranchal Adhiniyam Sankhaya 18 of 2005) and recognized under 12<br />

(B) of UGC Act., the university aims at evolving into creating an autonomous<br />

and accountable institution of higher learning.<br />

It intends to impart socially and economically relevant education. It also<br />

aims to provide lead in frontier areas of research and pedagogy. Having a huge<br />

and challenging mandate, the university started its first academic session in<br />

August 2009 and has stood up to the challenges in a relatively short period of<br />

time.<br />

1.1.1 How is the institutional vision and mission reflected in the<br />

academic programmes of the university?<br />

The academic programmes of the university are reflective of the vision and the<br />

mission of the university as a Centre of Excellence. The university is setting<br />

high standards for creation and dissemination of knowledge through teaching<br />

and research in the chosen areas of studies, both in India and around the world.<br />

Thus the academic programmes of the university are oriented towards the<br />

following:<br />

Offer state-of-the-art educational programmes in cutting-edge disciplines of<br />

regional, national and international relevance.<br />

Student and learning-to-learn centered pedagogy supported by a community<br />

of eminent research-scholars.<br />

Value- based learning.<br />

Conduct high quality and multi-disciplinary research to push the boundaries<br />

of knowledge in the chosen areas.<br />

Provide a challenging and conducive environment for scholar-researchers<br />

to engage in pursuit of excellence.<br />

Leadership through collaborative educational ventures.<br />

1.1.2 Does the university follow a systematic process in the design and<br />

development of the curriculum? If yes, give details of the process (need<br />

assessment, feedback, etc.).<br />

Before launching an academic programme, each school/department has<br />

organized a brainstorming session with experts from academia and other<br />

relevant institutions. The details are thrashed out in view of the need and<br />

requirements of academia, industry and larger society. The outline for syllabus<br />

is thus evolved in consonance with the UGC guidelines.<br />
