6.2.8 Does the university conduct performance audit of the various<br />

departments?<br />

Yes. The University reviews the performance of various schools and<br />

departments on a regular basis informally; however, formally it is being done<br />

on the annual basis. The performance of each School/Departments is<br />

documented in the annual report which is presented in the Executive Council<br />

and after its approval is placed in the University Court meeting.<br />

6.2.9 What mechanisms have been evolved by the university to identify<br />

the developmental needs of its affiliated institutions?<br />

6.2.10 Does the university have a vibrant College Development Council<br />

(CDC) / Board of College and University Development (BCUD)? If yes,<br />

6.3 Faculty Empowerment Strategies<br />

6.3.1 What efforts have been made to enhance the professional<br />

development of teaching and non-teaching staff?<br />

The teachers are allowed, to participate in refresher and orientation<br />

programmes, take study leave for Ph.D., to undertake research projects, write<br />

research articles, present papers in the conferences/seminars, undertake<br />

training and consultancy activities, undertake projects in the applied areas<br />

which have demonstration effects, deliver lectures in the Friday lecture series<br />

and over and above get involved in the professional development of their<br />

students. Introduction of research degree programmes in Environmental<br />

Science, Communication, Management and Economics is an attempt to<br />

enhance the professional development and qualification of the teachers.<br />

Every faculty members have been provided with a laptop or a desktop<br />

computer with internet connectivity. A sum of Rs 20,000 (in two years) has<br />

been earmarked for each faculty as financial assistance to attend national or<br />

international seminars. In addition, a faculty is allowed to use the extent of 50<br />

percent of the overhead charges provided for in a research project funded by<br />

the external agencies.<br />
