the activities of the University. This has helped in planning and reorganizing<br />

the activities from time to time.<br />

3.6.6 Bearing in mind the objectives and expected outcomes of the<br />

extension activities organized by the university, how did they complement<br />

students’ academic learning experience? Specify the values inculcated and<br />

skills learnt.<br />

Social Outreach is an integral part of University educational programme which<br />

inculcates a sense of social responsibility amongst students. These programs<br />

engage students in meaningful social service that meets community needs. The<br />

University has taken several steps towards making class room learning more<br />

effective, enduring and meaningful.<br />

a. Students also develop several skills like organizational skills – from<br />

planning to execution to evaluation; interpersonal skills – team work,<br />

cooperation; communication skills – (oral, written, report writing), and<br />

others (posters, street plays) and research skills.<br />

b. Universal and enduring values like democracy, peace, justice,<br />

tolerance, compassion, equality; pluralism and co-operation are<br />

inculcated through these programmes.<br />

3.6.7 How does the university ensure the involvement of the community<br />

in its outreach activities and contribute to community development? Give<br />

details of the initiatives of the university which have encouraged<br />

community participation in its activities.<br />

a. People’s participation is ensured at all levels of planning,<br />

implementation and follow-up of University activities. Programs are<br />

worked out keeping in mind people’s needs, concerns and aspirations.<br />

A poster exhibition celebrating RTI week was organized for village<br />

residents. Apart from this, sessions on government’s flagship programs<br />

were also conducted.<br />

b. In collaboration with Pratham, an NGO working on welfare issues, the<br />

students participated in the various developmental campaigns which<br />

wereabout making city meaningful.<br />

c. Through the medium of street plays and posters, the University reaches<br />

out to the wider community on issues of female foeticide, violence<br />

against women, environmental awareness and water shortage etc.<br />

d. As a part of ‘Waste Management Drive’, the University undertook a<br />

survey of Bindal and Rispana rivers, Dehardun.<br />

e. Every year students participate in ‘Green clean campaign’ to spread<br />

awareness about Swach Bharat.<br />
