<strong>DOON</strong> <strong>UNIVERSITY</strong>, <strong>DEHRADUN</strong><br />

Evening classes in foreign languages have been introduced for general<br />

public in view of emerging demands. The classes are taken by the regular<br />

teaching faculty.<br />

In School of Languages, efforts are made to engage faculty native speakers<br />

of foreign languages. For example, in teaching of Chinese, Japanese and<br />

Spanish, the university has availed the services of native speaking faculty from<br />

time to time. Beginning February 2016, the university is going to have native<br />

speaking Japanese faculty supported by JICA.<br />

The M.Tech Programme in Environmental Technology in SENR has been<br />

introduced with financial assistance from UGC under Innovative Scheme.<br />

∗ Research<br />

A course on Research Methodology is mandatory in all Ph D programmes.<br />

In addition, it is a compulsory course in most of the UG and PG programmes.<br />

To develop research potential of the students undertaking a research based<br />

project in some of the professional courses or a dissertation is mandatory in<br />

partial fulfillment for obtaining PG degrees in all courses and UG degree in<br />

some courses.<br />

In the department of economics, a course titled “Special Report” was also<br />

introduced in 2015 in order to encourage the students further for undertaking<br />

research activities.<br />

Students are encouraged to submit research papers and present their<br />

research at national/ international platforms. The university provides special<br />

assistance to teachers and students for seminars and other research-related<br />

academic activities.<br />

Faculty members are encouraged to undertake funded research projects<br />

from bodies such as ICSSR, UGC, DST, AICTE, ICAR, etc., and, this enables<br />

participation of students in active research.<br />

The university has allowed 50 percent of the overhead charges in research<br />

projects of the faculty members for their use in research and academic<br />

activities.<br />

1.1.4 To what extent does the university use the guidelines of the<br />

regulatory bodies for developing and/or restructuring the curricula? Has<br />

the university been instrumental in leading any curricular reform which<br />

has created a national impact?<br />

The UGC guidelines and model curriculum serve as a basis for designing<br />

curriculum of all the courses of university.<br />

Since the academic programmes in the university commenced in 2009, all<br />

relevant inputs and guidelines from universities such as JNU, DU, GB Pant<br />

University, etc., were taken into consideration during designing of syllabus<br />

and the credit structure.<br />
