Criterion V: STUDENT SUPPORT AND PROGRESSION<br />

5.1 Student Mentoring and Support<br />

5.1.1 Does the university have a system for student support and<br />

mentoring? If yes, what are its structural and functional characteristics?<br />

Yes, Doon University has a system in place for student support and mentoring.<br />

Doon University draws students from diverse backgrounds and from different<br />

regions all over India. Hence, there are chances of students possessing<br />

different capabilities and capacities. This heterogeneity of the students in the<br />

campus is properly taken care off. Doon University recognizes that students<br />

need constant support and mentoring and has, thus, devised a mechanism<br />

which involves faculty and students peer group involvement.<br />

Part A: Structural and functional characteristics of students support<br />

Doon University faculty members are assigned duties with regard to<br />

students support.<br />

Doon University being a residential University has its own hostels,<br />

separately for boys and girls.<br />

Each hostel is looked after by a set of wardens who are also faculty<br />

members.<br />

The Chief Warden looks after over-all hostel management. The rest of<br />

the wardens assist the chief warden to address immediate issues of<br />

students.<br />

Part B: Structural and functional characteristics of students mentoring<br />

Doon University has further made arrangements of remedial classes for<br />

academically weaker students by way of individual or group classes<br />

depending on the nature of requirement.<br />

Doon University campus has two ATM counters, post-office and bank<br />

counter to cater to the needs of the students.<br />

5.1.2 Apart from classroom interaction, what are the provisions<br />

available for academic<br />

mentoring?<br />

Apart from routine classroom academic mentoring of students through<br />

discussions, there are<br />

several other major avenues for academic mentoring of students by way of :<br />

Project consulting: Every faculty member, in Doon University, spends<br />

considerable time for students in their project work. In addition,<br />

students also have opportunities to participate in projects undertaken<br />

by faculty member.<br />
