Chemical kinetics suggests that some <strong>of</strong> the bad effects <strong>of</strong>low temperature in<br />

submerged acid soils can be twercome by applying more nitrogen <strong>and</strong> phosphate<br />

at planting, by liming. <strong>and</strong> by using one <strong>of</strong> the following methods <strong>of</strong> water<br />

management: (l) delaying submergence after planting; (2) continuous submergencc;<br />

(3) midscason soil drying; or (4) providing intcnial drainage.<br />
