The Type ll (or V) curve indicates a good balaince between the vegetative
growth and the reproductive grmvtli, the 'l'_\'pe I curve shows an excessive vegetative.
growth. and the Type III curve indicates a weak vegetative growth relative
to the reproductive growth. The 'l'_vpe A growth pattern is smooth succession
of the vegetative phase to the reproductive phase; in the B pattern these two
phases overlap. and in the C pattern there is a lag between them.
Varieties. seasons. and cultural practices should be selected to realize the Type
A pattern with a lft-‘pe II curve. When environmental conditions are favorable,
one should attempt to achieve the ‘llvpe V curve.
