ISR(?)/IRAN/AZERBAIJAN Subject: fwd: New SW clandestine station
broadcasting to Iran. Some interesting news for clandestine radio
enthusiasts:
Voice of Southern Azerbaijan is a new clandestine station bc to Iran.
The schedule is 1530-1630 UTC on 12090 kHz. The signal here in the UK is
rather weak but clear as this is a clear channel. No jamming as yet.
The ID in Azeri is "Bura Janubi Azerbaijan Sasi" ("This is the Voice of
Southern Azerbaijan").
The station is aimed at the Azeri population in NoWe Iran, hence the use
of the term "Southern Azerbaijan". I think the credit for first hearing
the station must go to Victor Goonetilleke who tells me that he's been
hearing it since June. This is also the unidentified station reported by
Vladimir Titarev in DW Window 23. Although the station is announcing a
telephone number in the Netherlands we think the tx site is somewhere
in the Middle East.
New opposition radio Voice of Southern Azerbaijan, a new anti-Iranian
radio station has started operations.
A cassette tape and a letter relating to the station, both in Azeri, have
also been sent by the National and Independent Front of Southern
Azerbaijan to BBC_Monitoring. ... This cassette has been sent to you
from the National Independent Front of Southern Azerbaijan, the station
that operates a radio station from a secret location, the station that
broadcasts to our nation in Southern Azerbaijan and to all residents of
Iran. This station broadcasts between eight and nine o'clock, Iran time,
[1530-1630 UTC] on 12090 kHz or 24 mb ... You can also phone us and
tell us your news. Our telephone number outside the country is
00 31 703 192189 [The Netherlands]. ... our struggles are to achieve
the following objectives:
1. Complete national and cultural autonomy.
2. The Azeri language to be acknowledged in Iran as the second
official language. In Azeri regions, the Azeri language should be
acknowledged as the first language and should be taught in schools.
3. Azeris to have complete control over their region, their land, their
natural resources.
4. Economic equality, the people of Southern Azerbaijan not be
discriminated against.
5. Good education and training to be provided and the great traditions of
the Azeri people to be valued.
6. Azeri representatives be promoted to high positions within
government departments if they deserve to be promoted and not be
discriminated against.
7. The budget for the Azeri minority to be allocated according to the
population, or taxes [for Azeri people] to be reduced by as much
as half the present level...
One people, one language, one blood, The National and Independent Front of
Southern Azerbaijan. ...
