B<strong>BC</strong>WS to conduct special midwinter broadcast to Antarctica June 19th, 2009<br />

The B<strong>BC</strong> World Service will be making a special midwinter shortwave<br />

broadcast to Antarctica on Sunday 21 June at 2130 UTC. The broadcast is<br />

directed to members of the British Antarctic Survey, and will be on the<br />

following frequencies:<br />

a.. 5950 kHz (from Rampisham, UK)<br />

b.. 7295 kHz (from Rampisham, UK)<br />

c.. 7360 kHz (from Ascension Island)<br />

Didn't even try the other two (7295 and 5950), since 7360 was fine<br />

(Rampisham or Ascension?). Brought back happy memories of B<strong>BC</strong> Calling the<br />

Yes memories on Calling the Falklands and also German Christmas greetings<br />

concert on Deutsche Welle, Norddeich and Ruegen Radio maritime services in<br />

the 50ties, 60ties, 70ties.<br />

Powerhouse like local radio from Rampisham:<br />

today June 21 at 2130 UT in southwestern Germany:<br />

5950 S=9+40dB<br />

7295 S=9+20dB<br />

7360 20% audio underneath of R Belarus Minsk which is S=9+20dB, - but<br />

understandable B<strong>BC</strong> program content from Ascension.<br />

Midwinter greetings from 2131 UT, with many phone-ins from all over GB and<br />

IRL.<br />

Strong signals heard here on 5950 (best) and 7295 kHz. Audible on 7360 kHz<br />

mixing with Belarus.<br />
