On 22 Feb at 1500- UT I was checking the jamming situation on 5060 and
7175 kHz. No jamming on 5060 kHz althought the weak Eritrea was audible
under strong China. At 1600 UT no jammers appeared to 7175 kHz where VOBME
was carrying some celebration program. When rechecking 7175 kHz at 1606 UT
noted there enthusiastic female voice in American accented English talking
about youths of Eritrea and new generation. Ended her speech with phrase
"Victory to the masses" and got loud applauses. Back to local languages
and music. This programme was also broadcast on 7210 and 5060 kHz.
Re: Eritrea. Fine monitoring Jari. Today has been a day of protest by
Eritreans in various cities around the world against UN sanctions imposed
in December. Sounds like like you heard a special broadcast of one of the
rallies.
(Chris Greenway-UK, dxld Feb 22)
Yes Chris. Noted that event in the net later, too. I first checked if
there was a public holiday or something in Eritrea, but none. Then noticed
the web mentions of "Worldwide rally against UN sanction on Eritrea" on
February 22. That must have been the subject of the program.
