Beginning in software version 5.2(1), NX-OS supports the capability to leverage wide (64-
bit) metrics. This improves route selection on higher-speed interfaces or bundled interfaces.
NX-OS defaults to supporting the classic metrics, and wide metrics can be configured under
the address-family keyword. Devices leveraging wide metrics are backward compatible
with ones not capable or configured of supporting them. EIGRP wide metrics introduce the
following two new metric values represented as k6 in the EIGRP metrics configuration,
jitter and energy. Jitter is accumulated across all links in the route path and is measured in
microseconds. Energy is also accumulated across all links in the route path and is measured
in watts per kilobit.
Example 3-10 shows how to configure wide metrics for EIGRP.
