Design Note
Acme, Inc., has elected to use port-channels between these devices, even though
initially it will use only a single 10 G member in each port-channel. This gives them
flexibility to incrementally add bandwidth in the future by simply adding additional
members. To decrease the impact of a single module failure, the aggregation links to
the core are placed on different linecards. On the core side of these links, diversity is
achieved by redundant chassis, each with a single linecard. Cost was a major driver
for this decision, but by making these links port-channels, in the future, Acme may
purchase additional modules, at which time additional links from the new modules
can be added to the port-channels and increase the redundancy.
