Note
The OTV feature is disabled by default. OTV needs to be enabled with the feature otv
cli.
• OTV site VLAN: The OTV site-VLAN is used to discover other Edge Devices in a
multihomed topology. OTV Edge Devices within the same site establish an OTV
adjacency over the site VLAN and elect the Authoritative Edge Device (AED) for
each extended VLAN. The OTV site VLAN needs to be trunked on the OTV internal
interfaces of the OTV Edge Device. It is recommended that the OTV site VLAN is
unique per location and does not overlap with any other VLANs in the topology,
meaning the VLAN chosen to be the OTV site VLAN serves only this purpose.
Example 11-4 shows how to configure the OTV site VLAN on the OTV VDC; the site
VLAN needs to be allowed on the OTV internal interfaces as well.
• OTV site-id: With NX-OS release 5.2.1 and later, a second OTV adjacency is
maintained, the overlay adjacency. The overlay adjacency is established over the OTV
join-interfaces across the Layer 3 network. Each OTV Edge Device located in the
same site must be configured with the same site-identifier (site-id). The new site-id is
advertised in IS-IS hello packets as a part of OTV and is sent over both the overlay
and on the OTV site VLAN. The second adjacency protects against when the OTV site
VLAN is partitioned between the OTV Edge Devices in the same site. The site-
