Maintenance Window #1 Summary<br />

During this maintenance window, Acme, Inc., engineers successfully integrated the Nexus<br />

7000 switches into the existing data center without issue. Physical links were brought up,<br />

<strong>and</strong> EIGRP was configured <strong>and</strong> verified such that full communication exists at Layer 3<br />

between the new environment <strong>and</strong> the old. Establishing this connectivity allows Acme to<br />

migrate routing for a single VLAN at a time <strong>and</strong> ensures that dependencies between VLANs<br />

that have been migrated can still communicate with th<strong>os</strong>e that have not.<br />

Figure 14-2 shows the current topology after this maintenance window.<br />

During the second maintenance window, the first access pair (Denmark <strong>and</strong> Scotl<strong>and</strong>) will<br />

be physically connected to the new aggregation 7000s at Layer 2. The Layer 2 topology will<br />

be modified so that the Nexus 7000s will be the root bridge for all VLANs that live on<br />

Denmark <strong>and</strong> Scotl<strong>and</strong>. Acme, Inc., has ch<strong>os</strong>en to connect the Catalyst 6500s to the Nexus<br />

7000s using the Virtual Port-Channel (vPC) feature that was discussed in Chapter 2, “Layer<br />

2 Support <strong>and</strong> Configurations.” Additional links have been pre-cabled between the<br />

aggregation <strong>and</strong> access devices so that the cutover can occur as seamlessly as p<strong>os</strong>sible <strong>and</strong><br />

ensuring that to back these changes out, these links can simply be shut down if necessary. As
