• Supporting both VEthernet and vEthernet ports
Port profiles that are configured as uplinks can be assigned by the server administrator to
physical ports (a vmnic or a physical NIC [PNIC]). Port profiles that are not configured as
uplinks can be assigned to a VM virtual port.
Note
Manual interface configuration overrides the port-profile configuration; it is
recommended to use this method for temporary changes or configuration changes.
Port profiles have two states, enabled and disabled. When a port-profile state is disabled,
the port-profile has the following behavior:
• Its configuration is not applied to assigned ports.
• If exporting policies to a VMware port group, the port group is not created on the
vCenter Server.
When a port-profile state is enabled, the port-profile has the following behavior:
• Its configuration is applied to assigned ports.
• If inheriting policies from a VMware port group, the port group is created on the
vCenter Server.
Note
The default state of a port-profile is disabled.
A port profile can have the following characteristics defined:
• ACL
• Capability (uplink, l3control)
• Channel-group
• Description
• Inherit
• Default, resets characteristics to default settings
• Interface state (shutdown/no shutdown)
• Name
• Netflow
• Port-security
• Private-VLAN
• QoS policy
• State (enabled/disabled)
• Switchport mode (access port or trunk port)
• System VLAN
