First-Hop Routing Protocol Localization<br />

A second enhancement employed by OTV to reduce the amount of traffic that traverses the<br />

inter-DC links is a method to localize the Virtual default-gateway IP address (VIP) of the<br />

FHRP. FHRP is a general term for a protocol that defines the default gateway IP address. It<br />

encompasses any of the well-known protocols such as Hot-St<strong>and</strong>by Router Protocol<br />

(HSRP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), <strong>and</strong> Global Load Balancing Protocol
