HSRP Support for IPv6
NX-OS supports both HSRP version 1 (HSRPv1) and HSRP version 2 (HSRPv2). HSRPv2
brings certain enhancements to HSRPv1, including expanded group number support, IPv6
support, and improved management and troubleshooting. At the time of this writing,
HSRPv2 is the only FHRP available for NX-OS that provides support for IPv6. The IPv6
neighbor discovery (ND) process relies on periodic multicasting of available IPv6 routers
via router advertisement (RA). A failover could take as long as 30 seconds. HSRPv2
provides a much faster, millisecond failover alternative to the traditional IPv6 ND process.
Example 3-110 shows the process of configuring basic HSRPv2 for IPv6.
