In addition to the NX-OS operating system, the Nexus 7000 switches include electronic programmable logic devices (EPLDs) that enable for additional hardware functionality or fixes without having to upgrade or replace the module. If new features or fixes are released that can be implemented in hardware through the use of EPLDs, this process must be done outside of the ISSU and might be disruptive to flowing traffic. The EPLD process is done on one module at a time, and therefore configurations that have module redundancy for portchannels or Layer 3 peering on multiple modules can make this process less disruptive. NX- OS release notes should be reviewed to determine if an EPLD upgrade is required. Example 6-16 demonstrates the EPLD upgrade process. Example 6-16.
