Hadhrat Uthmaan B,GW Spends <strong>the</strong> whole night<br />

reciting <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan in a single<br />

Rakaah <strong>of</strong> salaah<br />

Hadhrat Muhammad bin Miskeen narrares that when <strong>the</strong> rebels surrounded <strong>the</strong><br />

house <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Uthmaan Wm, his wife said to <strong>the</strong>m, "You wish to<br />

assassinate him?! Whe<strong>the</strong>r you kill him or leave him, he spends <strong>the</strong> whole night<br />

reciting <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan in a single Rakaah <strong>of</strong> salaah." ('I<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration states that when <strong>the</strong> rebels assassinated Hadhrat Uthmaan bin<br />

Affaan WG@, his wife said, "You have killed him when he was a man who spent<br />

<strong>the</strong> whole night reciting <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan in a single Rakaah <strong>of</strong> salaah!" (2)<br />

Hadhrat Uthmaan bin Abdur Rahmaan Taymi reports that his fa<strong>the</strong>r said, "I once<br />

told myself that I would ensure that I was <strong>the</strong> only one to stand in Ibaadah by <strong>the</strong><br />

Maqaam Ibraheem one night. <strong>The</strong>refore, after performing <strong>the</strong> Isha salaah, I had<br />

<strong>the</strong> Maqaam to myself as I stood <strong>the</strong>re. As I was standing <strong>the</strong>re, someone placed<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir hand on my shoulder. It was Hadhrat Uthmaan bin Affaan WGw. He<br />

started with Ummul Qur'aan (Surah Faatiha) and continued reciting until he had<br />

completed <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he performed Ruku and Sajdah<br />

(completed <strong>the</strong> second Rakaah) and <strong>the</strong>n took his shoes (and left). I cannot<br />

however recall whe<strong>the</strong>r he had performed any o<strong>the</strong>r salaah before that or not." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Uthmaan bin Abdur Rahmaan Taymi relates, "I saw Hadhrat Uthmaan<br />

9Gw step forward to <strong>the</strong> Maqaam Ibraheem one night where he recited <strong>the</strong><br />

entire Qur'aan in a single Rakaah before leaving." (4)<br />

Hadhrat Ataa bin Abi Rabaah reports that after leading <strong>the</strong> people in salaah,<br />

Hadhrat Uthmaan 3Gw would stand behind <strong>the</strong> Maqaam Ibraheem where he<br />

would recite <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan in a single Rakaah <strong>of</strong> his Witrsalaah. (5)<br />

Hadhrat Muhammad bin Seereen would stand in salaah all night in which he<br />

would complete <strong>the</strong> entire Qur'aan in a single Rakaah. 6)<br />

Forego standing in salaah for Treating<br />

his Blindness<br />

Hadhrat Musayyib bin Raafi narrates that when Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas<br />

UGw became blind, a man came to him saying, "If you are able to restrain<br />

yourself from (standing and) performing salaah for seven days, I shall be able to<br />

treat you and Insha Allaah cure you. You may however perform salaah while lying<br />

down and making gestures." Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas !3Gw sent for<br />
