It is Allaah Who restrained <strong>the</strong>ir hands from (fighting) you and your<br />

hands from (fighting) <strong>the</strong>m right in Makkah (at Hudayb~yyah) after<br />

granting you dominance over <strong>the</strong>m. Allaah is always Watchful over<br />

what you do. {Surah Fatah, verse 24)(l)<br />

A Man Loses his Sight by <strong>the</strong> Curse <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Ali gg@&j<br />

Hadhrat Zaadhaan narrates that when Hadhrat Ali W3&4 once narrated a<br />

Hadith, someone accused him <strong>of</strong> lying. "May 1 curse you if it is you who are<br />

lying?" Hadhrat Ali %Ww asked <strong>the</strong> man. "Go ahead and curse," <strong>the</strong> man<br />

challenged. <strong>The</strong>manhadnoteven left <strong>the</strong> ga<strong>the</strong>ring when his eyesight was lost.(2)<br />

Hadhrat Arnmaar ~,G%j narrates that when Hadhrat Ali ~S%?.j once narrated a<br />

Hadith, someone accused him <strong>of</strong> lying. <strong>The</strong> man had hardly stood up from <strong>the</strong><br />

ga<strong>the</strong>ring and he was already blind (because <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> curse <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Ali<br />

Hadhrat Zaadhaan narrates that when someone once narrated a Hadith to<br />

Hadhrat Ali ~,GWj, Hadhrat Ali 8,L3wj said, "I think that you are lying to me."<br />

When <strong>the</strong> man insisted that he was not, Hadhrat Ali SGw asked, "May 1 curse<br />

you if you are lying?" "Go ahead and curse," <strong>the</strong> man challenged. Hadhrat Ali<br />

?3W&!%<strong>the</strong>n cursed <strong>the</strong> man and he had scarcely left <strong>the</strong> ga<strong>the</strong>ring when he<br />

became blind. (4)<br />

A Woman becomes Blind by <strong>the</strong> Curse <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar !&Gw narrates that Marwaan once sent some<br />

people to Hadhrat Sa'eed bin Zaid 9,Ew to discussa claim that a woman named<br />

Arwa bint Uwais had made against him. Hadhrat Sa'eed $B3Wj exclaimed, "<strong>The</strong>se<br />

people think that I have wronged her when I have heard Rasulullaah @% say,<br />

'<strong>The</strong> one who usurps even a hand's span <strong>of</strong> land, will have a hand's span <strong>of</strong> all<br />

seven earths placed as a yoke around his neck on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah."' Hadhrat<br />

Sa'eed S,Ew <strong>the</strong>n prayed, "0 Allaah! If she is lying, let her not die until she<br />

turns blind and make her well her grave."<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar wiWj says, "By Allaah! She turned blind before her<br />

death and one day as she very cautiously left her house, she fell into her well and<br />

it became her grave." (5)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazam narrates that a woman<br />

named Arwa once sought judgement from Marwaan bin Hakam against Hadhrat<br />

(1) Ahmad, reporting from reliable sources as confirmed by Haythami (Vo1.6 Pg.145). Nasa'ee has<br />

reported a similar narration, as quoted in <strong>the</strong> Takeer<strong>of</strong> Ibn Ka<strong>the</strong>er (Vo1.4 Pg.192).<br />
