<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Rawaaha<br />

Hadhrat lkramah reports that Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Rawaaha %3GW& was once<br />

lying beside his wife when he got up and went to have intercourse with one <strong>of</strong> his<br />

slave women in ano<strong>the</strong>r part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> house. His wife was alarmed when she did<br />

not see him lying where he had been so she immediately got up and left <strong>the</strong><br />

room. When she saw him on <strong>the</strong> slave woman, she returned to her room, took a<br />

knife and went back. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Rawaaha 4%G4%6 had just finished<br />

and had stood up when he met her carrying <strong>the</strong> knife. '"What is <strong>the</strong> matter?" he<br />

asked. "What is <strong>the</strong> matter indeed!" she replied, "Had I found you where I had<br />

seen you just now, I would have plunged this knife between your shoulders!"<br />

"And just where did you see me?" he asked. "1 saw you upon <strong>the</strong> slave," she<br />

replied. "It could not have been me that you saw," he said. He <strong>the</strong>n continued,<br />

"Rasulullaah @%% has prohibited anydne from reciting <strong>the</strong> Qufaan when one<br />

is impure (as I should be if I had had intercourse, yet I can recite for you)." "<strong>The</strong>n<br />

recite," she challenged. He <strong>the</strong>n recited <strong>the</strong> following (couplets which mean):<br />

'RasululJaah@?% came to us reciting <strong>the</strong> Book<br />

That shines forth like <strong>the</strong> rising dawn<br />

He brought guidance after darkness and our hearts are convinced that<br />

whatever he says must happen<br />

While he spends <strong>the</strong> night separated fiom his bed (engzged in [baadab)<br />

<strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen lie heavily on <strong>the</strong>ir beds"<br />

(Thinking that <strong>the</strong>se are verses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan) His wife said, "I >believe in <strong>the</strong><br />

Book <strong>of</strong> Allaah and reject what <strong>the</strong> eyes have seen." When Hadhrat Abdullaah bin<br />

SI;;* went early to Rasulullaah @% <strong>the</strong> next morning and informed<br />

him about what had transpired, Rasulullaah smiled so broadly that his<br />

molars became visible. ('1<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Umar aE&+j' and<br />

Rasulullaah at Hudaybiyyah<br />

Hadhrat Habeeb bin Abu Thaabit narrates that when he went to pose some<br />

questions to Hadhrat Abu Waa'il 5WG, <strong>the</strong> Sahabi related to <strong>the</strong>m that when<br />

<strong>the</strong>y were fighting at Siffeen, someone asked, "Have you not seen those who are<br />

called towards <strong>the</strong> Bo,ok <strong>of</strong> Allaah (to settle <strong>the</strong>ir disputes)?" "Yes, we have,"<br />

replied Hadhrat Ali bin Abi Taalib Ww. It was <strong>the</strong>n that Hadhrat Sahl bin<br />

Hunayf Ww said, "You have only yourselves to blame! I have seen us at<br />

Hudaybiyyah when Nabi k%% entered into a peace treaty with <strong>the</strong> Mushrikeen.<br />

Had we deemed fighting to be <strong>the</strong> solution, we would have fought (but it was in<br />

(1) Ahmad, as quoted in TaQeer<strong>of</strong> Ibn Ka<strong>the</strong>er (Vo1.2 Pg.494).<br />
