which is) good in <strong>the</strong> Aakhirah and save us from <strong>the</strong> punishment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

fire (<strong>of</strong>phannam)." {Surah Baqarah, verse 20 1 )<br />

<strong>The</strong> man <strong>the</strong>n made <strong>the</strong> du'aa and was cured. (')<br />

Rasulullaah @@ Refuses to Make Du'aa for<br />

Hadhrat Basheer bin Khasaasiyah S&2W<br />

to Die before him<br />

Hadhrat Basheer bin Khasaasiyah ?&G.w reports that Rasulullaah #$% once said<br />

to him, "Thank Allaah for bringing you from <strong>the</strong> Rabee'ah Khath'am tribe and<br />

allowing you to accept Islaam at <strong>the</strong> hands <strong>of</strong> His Rasool @&." "0 Rasulullaah<br />

@$%!" Hadhrat Basheer ?&5%j said, "Pray to Allaah to allow me to die before you."<br />

Refusing <strong>the</strong> request, Rasulullaah =said, "I shall not make that du'aa for anyone."Q)<br />

Rasulullaah Begins with Himself when<br />

Making Du'aa and Avoids Rhyming<br />

Hadhrat Ubay bin Ka'b 9,GM says, "Whenever making du'aa for anyone,<br />

Rasulullaah @% always began with (asking for) himself. When speaking <strong>of</strong><br />

Hadhrat Moosa &#&$ one day, Rasulullaah &@ remarked, 'May Allaah shower<br />

His mercy on Moosa w. Had he been more patient, he would have seen even<br />

stranger things from his companion. However, he said:<br />

"If I question you about anything after this, <strong>the</strong>n you need not remain<br />

with me. You have received (enough) excuse from me (topart from<br />

me)." {Surah Kahaf, verse 721(~)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Ayyoob Ansaari ~ ,GWj algo reports that whenever Rasulullaah @&<br />

made du'aa, he began with himself. (4)<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha @GWj once said to Ibn Abu Saa'ib who was <strong>the</strong> lecturer <strong>of</strong><br />

Madinah, "Refrain from going out <strong>of</strong> your way to rhyme your du'aa because 1<br />

have seen <strong>the</strong> timer<strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @,wii and none <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>m did this." (')<br />

Hadhrat Umar %Gwj Teaches <strong>the</strong> Etiquette <strong>of</strong><br />

Dufaa to a Man and <strong>the</strong> Du'aa Hadhrat Abdullaah<br />

overheard a man making du'aa to be protected from<br />

(1) Ibn Abi Shaybah and Ibn Najjaar, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol. 1 Pg.290).<br />

(2) Abu Nu'aym, as quoted in Muntakhab Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.5 Pg.147).<br />

(3) Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ahmad,, Abu Dawood, Nasa'ee and o<strong>the</strong>rs, as Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.1 Pg.290).<br />

Tirmidhi has reported a similar narration, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.1 Pg.290).<br />
