certainly am," Rasulullaah @?@ confirmed, " a messenger from my Rabb 3,&35F<br />

c?me to me today saying, Whoever <strong>of</strong> your Ummah sends salutations to you<br />

once, Allaah will record <strong>the</strong> reward <strong>of</strong> ten good deeds to his account, will remove<br />

ten sins from his record, will elevate his stages by ten and will shower as much<br />

mercies on him in response."'(')<br />

Hadhrat Ka'b bin Ujrah k= narrates that Rasulullaah @& once instructed<br />

<strong>the</strong>m to present <strong>the</strong>mselves at <strong>the</strong> pulpit. When <strong>the</strong>y did so and Rasulullaah @%<br />

ascended <strong>the</strong> first step, he said, "Aameen." When he <strong>the</strong>n ascended <strong>the</strong> second<br />

step, he again said, "Aameen" and <strong>the</strong>n again said "Aameen" when he ascended<br />

<strong>the</strong> third step. After Rasulullaah @%% had descended from <strong>the</strong> pulpit, <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Sahabah</strong> @= asked, "0 Rasulullaah @%%! We have heard you say something<br />

today that we have never before heard you say." Rasulullaah @& explained,<br />

"Jibra'eel@u came to me and said, 'Far removed from Allaah's mercy is <strong>the</strong><br />

person who finds <strong>the</strong> month <strong>of</strong> Ramadhaan without being forgiven!' To this I<br />

said 'Aameen'. When I <strong>the</strong>n ascended <strong>the</strong> second step, he said, 'Far removed from<br />

Allaah's mercy is <strong>the</strong> person before whom your name is mentioned and he fails<br />

to sends salutations to you!' To this I also said 'Aameen'. When I <strong>the</strong>n ascended<br />

<strong>the</strong> third step, he said, 'Far removed from Allaah's mercy is <strong>the</strong> person whose<br />

both parents or one parent gets old in his presence and <strong>the</strong>y do not enter him<br />

, , into Jannah (by his service to <strong>the</strong>m)!' To this I said 'Aameen'." (2)<br />

Rasulullaah States that <strong>the</strong> Most Miserly<br />

Person is one Who does not sends salutations to<br />

Him when his Name is Mentioned<br />

Hadhrat Abu Dharr B,W&% narrates that when he went out one day to Rasulullaah<br />

m, Rasulullaah @@ was saying, "Should I not inform you <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most miserly<br />

person?" "~le'ase'do, 0 Rasulullaah m!" <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> @C5wj asked.<br />

Rasulullaah @% said, "<strong>The</strong> one in whose presence my name is mentioned and<br />

he still does not sends salutations to me. This definitely fiakes him <strong>the</strong> most<br />

miserly <strong>of</strong> all people." (3)<br />

to send salutations to Him<br />

Hadhrat Abu Mas'ood W'Wj narrates that Rasulullaah @%@ once came to sit<br />

with <strong>the</strong>m as <strong>the</strong>y sat with Hadhrat Sa'd bin Ubaadah WLZI.32. It was <strong>the</strong>n that<br />

Hadhrat Basheer bin Sa'd who was <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Hadhrat Nu'maan bin Basheer<br />

4= asked, "0 Rasulullaah @@! Allaah has instructed us to send salutations<br />

(1) Ahmad and Nasa'ee, as quoted in Targheeb wat Tarheeb (Vo1.3 Pg.157). Abdur Razzaaq has<br />

reported a similar narration, as quoted in Kanzuf Umrnaal (Vol.1 Pg.216). <strong>The</strong>re are many<br />

variations <strong>of</strong> this Hadith narrated by many people.<br />

(2) Haakim. !bn Hibbaan, Bazzaar, Ibn Khuzaymah and Tabraani have all reported similar narrations<br />

from various <strong>Sahabah</strong> &%&%, as qu,oted in Targheeb wat Tarheeb (Vo1.3 Pg.166). Haythami<br />

(Vol.10 Pg.166) has commented on some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> chains <strong>of</strong> narrators.<br />

(3) Ibn Abu Aasim in his Kitaabus Salaah, as quoted in Targheeb wal Tarheeb (Vo1.3 Pg.170).
