reply. Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar Ww <strong>the</strong>n started weeping so much that his<br />

beard was drenched in his tears. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he said, "<strong>The</strong>se are two phrases that<br />

are very dear to me and which I recite very <strong>of</strong>ten."<br />

Hadhrat Jareeri reports, 'When Hadhrat Anas ~ , G W entered into <strong>the</strong> state <strong>of</strong><br />

Ihraam from Dhaatul Irq, we heard him say nothing o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> Dhikr <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah until he came out <strong>of</strong> Ihraam. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he said to me, 'Dear son <strong>of</strong> my<br />

bro<strong>the</strong>r! That is what Ihraam is like."'(2)<br />

Ga<strong>the</strong>rings <strong>of</strong> Dhikr<br />

<strong>The</strong> Virtue on <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah <strong>of</strong> those<br />

<strong>Part</strong>icipating in <strong>the</strong> Ga<strong>the</strong>rings <strong>of</strong> Dhikr<br />

Hadhrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri narrates from Rasulullaah @% that on <strong>the</strong><br />

Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah, Allaah will say, "<strong>The</strong> people <strong>of</strong> this assembly will soon learn<br />

who <strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> honour are." "0 Rasulullaah m!" someone asked, "Who are<br />

<strong>the</strong> people <strong>of</strong> honour?" Rasulullaah @% replied, "Those who participate in <strong>the</strong><br />

ga<strong>the</strong>rings <strong>of</strong> Dhikr." (3)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Incident <strong>of</strong> an Expedition that Rasulullaah<br />

@%@ dispatched and how he rated People Engaged<br />

in Dhikr above <strong>the</strong>m<br />

Hadhrat Umar %Gm narrates that Rasulullaah once dispatched an<br />

expedition to Najd that won a large booty and returned very quickly. Someone<br />

who was not part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> expedition remarked, "I have never before seen any<br />

expedition return so quickly and win so much booty as this expedition did!" To<br />

this, Rasulullaah said, "Should I not inform you <strong>of</strong> people who return even<br />

quicker with and even greater booty? <strong>The</strong>y are people who attend <strong>the</strong> Fajr salaah<br />

and <strong>the</strong>n remain seated in <strong>the</strong>ir places, engaging <strong>the</strong>mselves in Dhikr until<br />

sunrise. <strong>The</strong>reafter, <strong>the</strong>y perform two Rakaahs salaah before returning home.<br />

Such people have a quicker return and a greater booty than those <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

expedition." (4)<br />

Rasulullaah Sits with People Engaged in Dhikr<br />

after <strong>the</strong> Revelafion <strong>of</strong> a verse <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan<br />

Hadhrat Abdur Rahmaan bin Sahl bin Hunayf W5w narrates that Rasulullaah<br />

@& was in one <strong>of</strong> his rooms when Allaah revealed <strong>the</strong> verse:<br />

(1) Tabraani. Mundhiri (Vo1.3 Pg.94) and Haythami (Vol.10 Pg.82) have commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong><br />

narrators<br />

(2) Ibn Sa'd (Vo1.7 Pg.22).<br />

(3) Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, Ibn Hibbaan, Bayhaqi and o<strong>the</strong>rs, as quoted in Targheeb wat Tarheeb (Vo1.3<br />

Pg.63). H~ythami (Vol.10 Pg.72) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.<br />

(4) Ibn Zanjway and Tirmidhi, as quoted in Kanzul Ummaal (Vol.1 Pg.298). Bazzaar has reported a<br />

similar narration from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah !&lWj with slight additions. Haythami (Vol.10<br />

Pg.107) has however commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.
