<strong>The</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> '$i3EW1s Suspicion about <strong>the</strong> Person<br />

who did not Perform <strong>the</strong> Fajr and Isha Salaahs in<br />

Congregation<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Umar Ww says, "When we did not see a person for <strong>the</strong><br />

Fajr and Isha salaahs, we became suspicious <strong>of</strong> him (because it is <strong>the</strong><br />

Munaafiqeen who do not perform <strong>the</strong>se salaahs)." (2)<br />

Person Who missed <strong>the</strong> Fajr Salaah in<br />

congregation because he had Stayed awake<br />

at Night In Ibaadah<br />

Hadhrat Abu Bakr bin Sulaymaan bin Abu Hathma narrates that Hadhrat Umar<br />

S&W&& once did not see Hadhrat Sulaymaan bin Abu Hathma 6;53KWj for <strong>the</strong> Fajr<br />

salaah. Hadhrat Umar W 5 was on his way to <strong>the</strong> marketplace that morning<br />

and because Hadhrat Sulaymaan !4W+Wj"s house happened to be between <strong>the</strong><br />

Masjid and <strong>the</strong> marketplace, Hadhrat Umar !i3GW6 passed by Hadhrat Sulaymaan<br />

!B!HWs mo<strong>the</strong>r Hadhrat Shifaa W@W4. "I did not see Sulaymaan for <strong>the</strong> Fajr<br />

salaah," Hadhrat Umar $iW4% said. She explained, "He spent <strong>the</strong> night in salaah<br />

and sleep overpowered him." To this, Hadhrat Umar %.b~j remarked, "I prefer<br />

attending <strong>the</strong> Fajr salaah in congregation to standing in salaah all night," (3)<br />

Hadhrat Ibn Abu Mulaykah WW$ narrates that Hadhrat Shifaa lS3&$ who<br />

belonged to <strong>the</strong> Banu Adi bin Ka'b tribe once came to Hadhrat Umar during<br />

Ramadhaan. Enquiring about her husband, Hadhrat Umar 3$W4% asked, "Why<br />

did I not see Abu Hathma for <strong>the</strong> Fajr salaah?" "0 Ameerul Mu'mineen!" she<br />

explained, "He exerted himself (in Ibaadah) throughout <strong>the</strong> night and was too<br />

tired to go out to perform <strong>the</strong> Fajr salaah, so he (performed salaah at home and)<br />

slept." Hadhrat Umar -9 remarked, "By Allaah! Had he been present for <strong>the</strong><br />

Fajr salaah, it would have been more beloved to me than his exertion throughout<br />

<strong>the</strong> night."<br />

In ano<strong>the</strong>r narration, Hadhrat Shifaa bint Abdullaah says, "Hadhrat Umar<br />

!B!3W once came to my house where he found two men (my husband and son)<br />

fast asleep. 'What is <strong>the</strong> matter with <strong>the</strong>se two that <strong>the</strong>y were not present with us<br />

for salaah?' he asked. '0 Ameerul Mu'mineen!' I explained, '<strong>The</strong>y fell asleep after<br />

performing <strong>the</strong>ir Fajr salaah (at home).' To this Hadhrat Umar kW&W remarked,<br />

'I prefer performing Fajr salaah in congregation to performing (Nafl) salaah<br />
