"This is a sacred city," <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> &%%Gj responded. When Rasulullaah @@<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r asked <strong>the</strong>m what month it was, <strong>the</strong>y replied that <strong>the</strong> month was also a<br />

sacred one. Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n emphasised, "Verily, your blood, your wealth<br />

and your honour are as sacred to you as this day, this city and this month."<br />

After repeating this several times, Rasulullaah %?@ looked to <strong>the</strong> sky and said, "0<br />

Allaah! Have I conveyed <strong>the</strong> message? 0 Allaah! Have I conveyed <strong>the</strong> message?"<br />

Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas !iW= says, "I swear by <strong>the</strong> Being Who controls<br />

my life that an emphatic piece <strong>of</strong> advice that Rasulullaah $@ gave to <strong>the</strong><br />

Ummah was that he said, 'Those <strong>of</strong> you present here should convey <strong>the</strong><br />

message to those who are not present and you should never become Kuffaar<br />

after my death by striking <strong>the</strong> necks <strong>of</strong> each o<strong>the</strong>r (by killing each o<strong>the</strong>r)." ('I<br />

Hadhrat Jareer ~,Gh&!Gj narrates that after asking him to keep <strong>the</strong> people quiet (on<br />

<strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Farewell Hajj), Rasulullaah @i%! addressed <strong>the</strong>m saying,<br />

"After I have been keeping watch over you, never become Kuffaar after my death<br />

by striking <strong>the</strong> necks <strong>of</strong> each o~her (by killing each o<strong>the</strong>r)." ('1<br />

Hadhrat Ummul Husayn WGm reports that when she performed <strong>the</strong> Farewell<br />

Hajj with Rasulullaah & she saw Hadhrat Usaamah ?3Gw and Hadhrat Bilaal<br />

B G with ~ Rasulullaah w. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m was holding <strong>the</strong> reins <strong>of</strong> his camel<br />

while <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r was holding his shawl al<strong>of</strong>t to shade Rasulullaah $@ from <strong>the</strong><br />

sun until he had pelted <strong>the</strong> last Jamarah. Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n said many<br />

things, amongst which Hadhrat Ummul Husayn @E@j heard him say, "Ewn if<br />

an Abyssinian slave with amputated limbs has to become your ruler, you sho~~lci<br />

listen to and obey him if he leads you by <strong>the</strong> Book <strong>of</strong> Allaah." (3)<br />

Hadhrat Abu Umaamah %%3w narrates that on <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Farewell<br />

Hajj, he heard Rasulullaah @'@ say <strong>the</strong> following in his sermon: "Allaah has<br />

granted every rightful person his right. <strong>The</strong>refore, no bequest can be made fcr an<br />

heir, a child will belong to <strong>the</strong> biological fa<strong>the</strong>r and <strong>the</strong> adulterer will be<br />

stoned. <strong>The</strong>ir reckoning will never<strong>the</strong>less be Allaah's prerogative. <strong>The</strong> curse <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah perpetuating until <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Qiyaamah shall fall on <strong>the</strong> person who<br />

claims to be <strong>the</strong> child <strong>of</strong> anyone o<strong>the</strong>r than his fa<strong>the</strong>r and on <strong>the</strong> slave who<br />

claims to be <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong> anyone o<strong>the</strong>r than his master. A woman my also not<br />

spend from <strong>the</strong> house without <strong>the</strong> permission <strong>of</strong> her husband." Someone asked,<br />

"0 Rasulullaah @%$! Can she not even give food away (without his permission)?"<br />

Rasulullaah replied, "(Certainly not because) Food is <strong>the</strong> best <strong>of</strong> our<br />

wealth." Rasulullaah @@ <strong>the</strong>n continued to say, "Items given on loan must be<br />

returned, animals lent to give milk must also be returned, debts must be paid and<br />

<strong>the</strong> guarantor must settle <strong>the</strong> penalty." (4) Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration makes it clear that<br />

<strong>the</strong> lecture was delivered in Mina on <strong>the</strong> day <strong>of</strong> Nahr (10th <strong>of</strong> Dhul Hijjah). (5)<br />
