Rasulullaah Teaches Hadhrat Abu Dardaa<br />

%Wwj a Comprehensive Dhikr<br />

Hadhrat Abu Dardaa !iW@.% narrates that when Rasulullaah tt%& saw him<br />

moving his lips one day, Rasulullaah asked, "0 Abu Dardaa! What are you<br />

reciting?" "I am engaged in <strong>the</strong> Dhikr <strong>of</strong> Allaah," he replied. Rasulullaah @$%<br />

said, "Should I not inform you <strong>of</strong> a Dhikr that is better than your making Dhikr<br />

from night to day and from day to night?" When Hadhrat Abu Dardaa 3Gw<br />

asked to be informed, Rasulullaah @%% told him to recite:<br />

"I express <strong>the</strong> purity <strong>of</strong> Allaah as much as He has created. I express <strong>the</strong><br />

purity <strong>of</strong> Allaah as much as everything on earth. 1 express <strong>the</strong> purity <strong>of</strong><br />

Allaah as mu~h as everything <strong>the</strong>re is. I express <strong>the</strong> purity <strong>of</strong> Allaah as<br />

much as everything that His Book counts. I praise Allaah as much as He ..<br />

has created. I praise Allaah as much as it takes to fill everything He has<br />

created. I praise Allaah as much as it takes to fill everything that His<br />

~ook counts." (I)<br />

Rasulullaah Praises <strong>the</strong> Words that a Sahabi<br />

%$G5&G said in a Ga<strong>the</strong>ring<br />

Hadhrat Anas 3i.Wh% reports that he was sitting with Rasulullaah @%$ in a<br />

ga<strong>the</strong>ring when a Sahabi 4W!3&G5 arrived and greeted Rasool @$% saying, ~x-ll)<br />

('As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh').<br />

Rasulullaah @@ replied to his greeting by saying, (6G; $I k;; :dl 3; )"<br />

('Was Alaykumus Salaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh'). When <strong>the</strong> Sahabi<br />

J <strong>the</strong>n sat down, he said:<br />

"1 praise Allaah tremendously with praises that are pure and blessed as<br />

our Rabb would like to be praised and as He deserves to be praised."<br />

'What did you say?" Rasulullaah @%% asked. When <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahabah</strong> i@Gw repeated<br />

his words, Rasulullaah @% remarked, "I swear by <strong>the</strong> Being Who controls my<br />

life that ten angels raced, each one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> angels eager to record what you said.<br />

However, none <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m knew how to record it, so when <strong>the</strong>y took it up to <strong>the</strong><br />

One to Whom all honour belongs, He said, 'Record it exactly as my servant said<br />

it."'(2)<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r narration(" records <strong>the</strong> words <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dhikr as:<br />

(1) Tabraani and Bazzaar. Haythami (Vol.10 Pg.94) has commented on <strong>the</strong> chain <strong>of</strong> narrators.<br />

(2) Ahmad, reporting from reliable sources as confirmed in Targheeb war Tarheeb (Vol.3 Pg. 103).<br />

(3) Nasa'ee and Ibn Hibbaan.<br />
