Lowhul Mahfoodh: Translated as <strong>the</strong> "Protected Tablet". It is a book in <strong>the</strong><br />

heavens where Allaah has recorded every event that has taken place and that is<br />

to take place Everything written <strong>the</strong>re will definitely take place and none can<br />

alter it.<br />

M<br />

Madinah: A city in Arabia. Rasulullaah @%!$ migrated to Madinah after he was<br />

compelled to leave Makkah and he lived <strong>the</strong>re until his demise. He is buried in<br />

Madinah.<br />

Maghrib: One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> five Fardh salaahs. It is performed between sunset and <strong>the</strong><br />

period when all light vanishes from <strong>the</strong> horizon.<br />

Mahr: <strong>The</strong> dowry that is paid to <strong>the</strong> bride upon marriage.<br />

Mahram (plural - Mahaarim): Someone whom one is not allowed to marry, such<br />

as one's fa<strong>the</strong>r, mo<strong>the</strong>r, bro<strong>the</strong>r, sister, etc. A list <strong>of</strong> Mahaarim is mentioned in<br />

verses 22, 23 and 24 <strong>of</strong> Surah Nisaa (Surah 4). Someone whom one is allowed to<br />

marry is referred to as a non-Mahram.<br />

Makkah: A city in Arabia where Rasulullaah was born. It is also referred to<br />

as Bakkah. <strong>The</strong> Kabah is situated in this city.<br />

Malaa'ikah: <strong>The</strong> Arabic term for <strong>the</strong> angels. It is <strong>the</strong> plural <strong>of</strong> 'Malak'.<br />

Maqaam <strong>of</strong> Ibraheem @k&: <strong>The</strong> word "Maqaam" refers to a place where one<br />

stands and is <strong>the</strong>refore commonly translated as "station". <strong>The</strong> Maqaam <strong>of</strong><br />

Ibraheem @k& is <strong>the</strong> rock which Allaah provided for Ibraheem to stand on<br />

while he was building <strong>the</strong> Kabah. <strong>The</strong> rock would rise into <strong>the</strong> air whenever<br />

Ibraheem @k& needed to go higher as he built <strong>the</strong> walls.<br />

Masjid (plural - Masaajid): Normally referred to as a mosque, a Masjid is a place<br />

where Muslims perform <strong>the</strong>ir salaah in congregation.<br />

Masjidul Haraam: <strong>The</strong> Masjid surrounding <strong>the</strong> Kabah.<br />

Masjidun Nabawi: Translated as <strong>the</strong> "Masjid <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah m", it is <strong>the</strong> Masjid<br />

in Madinah that was built during <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> Rasulullaah @$% and where his<br />

grave is today.<br />

Mayta: Commonly translated as "carrion", <strong>the</strong> Arabic word "Mayta" refers to <strong>the</strong><br />

meat <strong>of</strong> animals that die without being slaughtered in <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> Allaah as well<br />

as <strong>the</strong> meat <strong>of</strong> a limb that is removed from a living animal. <strong>The</strong> only lawful things<br />

that can be eaten without slaughtering are fish and locusts.<br />

Men <strong>of</strong> Suffa: see Suffa<br />

Mina: A place situated approximately 4 km outside Makkah. People performing<br />

Hajj spend most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir time here.<br />

Mithqaal (plural: Mathaaqeel): One Mithqaal equals approximately 4.4g <strong>of</strong> silver<br />

Mu'adhin: <strong>The</strong> person who calls out <strong>the</strong> Adhaan. see Adhaan<br />

Mubaahala: When two conflicting parties collectively make du'aa to Allaah that<br />

He should destroy <strong>the</strong> party that is wrong.<br />

Mudd: One Mudd is equal to approximately 800g.
