m, who said to him, "0 Uqba bin Aamir! Maintain ties <strong>of</strong> kinship with those<br />

who sever <strong>the</strong>m, give to those who deprive you and forgive those who do you<br />

wrong." When he met Rasulullaah again afterwards, Rasulullaah said,<br />

"0 Uqba bin Aamir! Should I not inform you <strong>of</strong> a few Surahs, <strong>the</strong> likes <strong>of</strong> which<br />

Allaah has nei<strong>the</strong>r revealed in <strong>the</strong> Torah, <strong>the</strong> Zaboor or in <strong>the</strong> Injeel. Not a single<br />

night should pass you by without you reciting <strong>the</strong>m. <strong>The</strong>y are(uldJl11ga $1 Sura<br />

Hadhrat Uqba !&&% says, "After Rasulullaah -W had instructed me to do this,<br />

not a night has passed by without me reciting <strong>the</strong>se Surahs because it is only<br />

appropriate that I should never omit <strong>the</strong>m after receiving <strong>the</strong> instruction from<br />

Rasulullaah @@%."(I)<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha W3W4-3 reports that whenever Rasulullaah @@ lay down to<br />

sleep, he would place his palms next to each o<strong>the</strong>r, recite Surah Ikhlaas and<br />

Surah Falaq and <strong>the</strong>n blow into <strong>the</strong>m. <strong>The</strong>reafter, he would pass his hands over<br />

as much <strong>of</strong> his body as he could reach, bkginning with his head, face and front<br />

portion <strong>of</strong> his body. This he would repeat thrice. (2)<br />

According to ano<strong>the</strong>r narration, when he lay down to sleep, Rasulullaah @@<br />

used to blow into his palms after reciting <strong>the</strong> complete Surahs Ikhlaas, Falaq<br />

and Naas. He would <strong>the</strong>n pass his hands over his face, his arms, his chest and as<br />

far over his body as his arms would reach. Hadhrat Aa'isha @%Wj reports<br />

his illness intensified, Rasulullaah @@ would ask her to do it<br />

for him. (3)<br />

What Rasulullaah Used to Recite Before<br />

Going to Sleep<br />

Hadhrat Jaabir narrates that Rasulullaah @& would not go to sleep<br />

until he had recited Surah Alif Laam Meem Sajdah and Surah Mulk Hadhrat<br />

Tawoos mentioned that <strong>the</strong>se two Surahs rate seventy virtues higher than <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r Surahs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur'aan. (4)<br />

Hadhrat lrbaadh bin Saariya !BW% narrates that when he lay down, Rasulullaah<br />

@%% would recite <strong>the</strong> Musabbihaaat before sleeping. He would say, "In <strong>the</strong>se<br />

Surahs is a verse that is better than a thousand verses." (6)<br />

Hadhrat Aa'isha liW3W reports that Rasulullaah @?% would not go to sleep until<br />

he had recited Surah Zurnar and Surah ~ ani Israa'eel. (7)<br />

Hadhrat Farwah bin Naufal %lEW6 reports that he once approached Rasulullaah<br />

@@ with <strong>the</strong> request, "0 Rasulullaah @@! Teach me something to recite when I<br />

lie down to sleep." Rasulullaah k%.% said, "~ecite(~&kh~~jj) (Surah<br />
