The estimated cost of transferring a cruise boat to run by CNG is varying from 252 kEGP (12k€) to 336 kEGP<br />

(16 k€) and doesn't cost more than 109,200 EGP (5,200 €) from small boats.<br />

The planned action is set through the following assessments and development:<br />

• Develop a thorough assessment of the situation of tourists boats (small and large);<br />

- Assess the condition, engine size and power capacity required for large cruise boats,<br />

- Examine the condition, engine size and capacity required for small dhows, and<br />

- Estimate the amount of CNG needed to supply converted boats.<br />

• Identify potential technical partners to contribute to boat conversion to CNG,<br />

• Implementing the plan to convert cruise boats and small passenger boats to operate with CNG, and<br />

• Develop a study to install Solar PV onto cruise boats for supplying electricity from renewable energy.<br />

The ambition is to convert 110 cruise boats and 155 small passengers boats.<br />

Note that docks could also be equipped with solar PV. This should be done as part of the general effort to<br />

promote solar energy in the City of <strong>Luxor</strong> along the lines of the development of solar power plants around<br />

the city.<br />

Administrative and coordination process<br />

• Governorate of <strong>Luxor</strong> – City of <strong>Luxor</strong> (Municipality) and Governor’s to approve the plan and its targets,<br />

• City Council represented by the Governor approval,<br />

• Cruise boats and small passengers’ boats owners and management in <strong>Luxor</strong> – approvals,<br />

• Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMRs) – study and approve the quantity of the NCN/NG<br />

needed for these boasts to switch to green, including:<br />

- <strong>Egypt</strong> Gas Holding Company (EGAS) – study and approvals,<br />

- Ganoub el-Wady Holding Company – study and approval,<br />

- <strong>Egypt</strong> GAS Company EGC– Governorate of <strong>Luxor</strong> (approval for CNG supply),<br />

• Ministry of Transport /River Transportation Authority (RTA) – inspections and approval for safety,<br />

• Ministry of Interior (MoInt) / Civil Defence Department for checking safety issues with new installation,<br />

• Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy (MoERE) / NREA to approve the installation of SWH and PV<br />

new installation on Boats and docks,<br />

• Tourism (MoTrm) – renew license as part of the 110 cruise boats license,<br />

• Ministry of Environment (MoEnv) – Assess strategic environmental and social Impacts (SESIs) and benefits,<br />

and<br />

• Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation (MoIIC) – international investment approvals.<br />

• Initial approval of the Governorate (Municipality),<br />

• <strong>Final</strong> approval City Council represented by HE the Governor,<br />
