Visitor Facilities and Statistics
Schwetzingen’s Stadtinformation, or
Information Centre (run by the Office of
Culture and Sport of Schwetzingen Town
Council,) and the palace administration
(Baden-Württemberg Castles and Gardens)
have been providing professional, visitororiented
services for tourists for several
decades. The two institutions provide
complementary services, with the town
information service ensuring an attractive
general framework of services for visitors,
while the palace administration focuses on
access to historic buildings and interiors along
with the presentation and interpretation of the
cultural heritage of the property.
Pre-visit Services
The town’s Information Centre and the
Service Centre run by Baden-Württemberg
Castles and Gardens provide a telephone
line for enquiries from potential visitors to
Schwetzingen; and there are various websites
offering more detailed information. The town
information website at [www.schwetzingen.
de] provides information on current events,
dining out, and accommodation. The [www.
schloss-schwetzingen.de] website run by
Baden-Württemberg Castles and Gardens
is angled towards the needs of visitors
interested in the palace and gardens. A
website for the nomination of Schwetzingen
as a World Heritage site has been set up, and
this site supplies more detailed background
information on Schwetzingen’s heritage
value [www.welterbeantrag-schwetzingen.
de]. Additional information on the region is
provided on the website of the Rhine-Neckar
Metropolitan Region [www.rhein-neckardreieck.de].
On request, Schwetzingen’s Information
Centre [stadtinfo@schwetzingen.de] mails
visitors an information pack entitled
“Schwetzingen – Love at First Sight“ which
can be tailored to visitors‘ individual needs.
It may include brochures specifically geared
towards wheelchair users or children, for
example, along with a hotel and restaurant
guide, a brochure giving general information
on the town, an up-to-date calendar of events,
and much more. The brochure service
of Staatsanzeiger-Verlag (Government
Gazette Publications) also includes specific
information on Schwetzingen palace and
gardens [prospektservice@staatsanzeiger.de].
Copies of the following guides are available for
purchase at the palace ticket office.
Guided Tours of the Palace and Gardens
It is the remit of Baden-Württemberg Castles
and Gardens to convey to as broad a public as
possible a sense of the artistic and historical
value of Baden-Württemberg’s heritage.
A commercially run Service Center [info@
service-center-schloss-heidelberg.com] has
been set up in order to ensure economically
viable responses to the growing demand of
visitors for more individually tailored services.
The Service Center organises around 2,000
tours of vastly differing kinds each year for
the palace alone.
