Michael Hesse
Prof. Dr. Michael Hesse has been Professor
of Modern European Art History at the
Art History Department of the University
of Heidelberg since 1992 and is one of the
directors of the Centre for European History
and Cultural Studies.
He studied at Bochum, Münster and Paris,
gaining his first degree in 1976 and his PhD,
entitled Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Gotik
in der französischen Sakralarchitektur des
16., 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts, in 1979. He
was awarded a Habilitation in 1986 for the
book Königsplätze in Paris; and from 1986 to
1992 held the chair of Professor of Mediaeval
and Modern Art History at the University of
Bochum.
Professor Hesse has published numerous
works on modern and present-day
architecture, urbanism and fine arts, focusing
in particular on classical influences in
modernity.

Géza Hajós
Professor Géza Hajós has worked at the
Bundesdenkmalamt (Federal Office of Historic
Monuments) in Vienna, Austria, since 1965,
serving as the head of the Department for
Historic Gardens since 1986.
He was awarded his first degree at Budapest’s
Eötövös Loránd University and his PhD at the
University of Vienna. From 1980 to 1988 he
was a member of the executive committee of
the Austrian Association of Art Historians. He
served on the advisory board of the Journal of
Garden History for several years, and has been
on the board of Die Gartenkunst magazine
since 1989. Since 1991 he has served as
General Secretary of the Austrian Association
of Historic Gardens. In 1992 he completed his
Habiliation at the University of Modern Art
History in Graz.
Professor Hajós is the author of many
publications, including Der malerische
Landschaftspark in Laxenburg bei Wien (2006);
Denkmalschutz und Öffentlichkeit. Zwischen
Kunst, Kultur und Natur. Ausgewählte Schriften
zur Denkmaltheorie und Kulturgeschichte

Klaus von Krosigk
Dr.-Ing. qualified engineer, Director of Garden
Construction, born 1945 in Halle, Germany.
Degrees in Garden Architecture and Garden
History, and History of Art and Architecture at
the Technical University of Hanover.
Has worked for the state of Berlin since
1978, first at the Senate Department for
Construction and Housing, and since
1981 at the Senate Department for Urban
Development. Head of the Department
for Garden Conservation, part of Berlin’s
