If you’ve read all the way to the end of my book, thanks so much. I
hope you found some great ideas to solve problems or just to cheer you
up when you are having a bad day. Perhaps some of these ideas inspired
you to come up with a few great ideas of your own.
Revising the book was an adventure. I was asked to update about 60
of the 201 ideas, but once I got going, I realized every idea needed to be
refreshed or updated. That’s why there are dozens of new ideas related to
technology. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bing, and Groupon.com weren’t
around when I last updated this book.
In exchange for all these great ideas, I’d like to ask you a favor. If you

I want to thank all the business owners and experts who graciously
agreed to be interviewed for this third edition. I truly appreciate your time
and your candor. I also want to thank my husband, Joe, for being so supportive
and patient. It’s not easy living with a busy writer, especially one
who does quite a bit of reporting over the phone. Thanks, too, to Mavis
Carr, my wonderful research assistant.
During the past few weeks as my deadline approached, I thought I
should have written a book titled Two Great Ideas for Your Small Business.
Marry a rich person and use their money to do what you love.
Of course, I’m kidding. I’m heading back on the road, and looking
forward to meeting and interviewing more wonderful entrepreneurs just
like you. We’ll also be shooting video interviews with business owners at
