Concrete walls help to construct and divide varying levels<br />
of privacy between private and shared spaces. Due to the<br />
relatively large size of the house, the apertures are designed<br />
to maximize visual access between the living spaces while<br />
retaining the inhabitants’ privacy.<br />

The homeowners, a couple who work in advertising<br />
and have a personal love for Tadao Ando’s architecture,<br />
had their hearts set on exposed concrete<br />
to be the primary element in the architecture of<br />
their private home. The design would also need to<br />
create a living area with all the necessary features<br />
that would correspond to the two owners’ lifestyles<br />
and preferences for privacy and peace. The functional<br />
features would also have to help minimize<br />
the owners’ need to commute through Bangkok’s<br />
insufferable traffic.<br />
Studio Krubka, the project’s architect, challenged<br />
themselves with the given requirements, addressing<br />
the design by reconsidering the sequence of how<br />
the living spaces could be accessed. To create<br />
the utmost level of privacy for the two owners’<br />
personal living spaces, the sequence begins with<br />
the entrance, which meets with the staircase<br />
leading up to the second floor, where the bedroom<br />
is located, without having to pass through any<br />
other parts of the house. The solid concrete walls<br />
clearly define and divide the private and common<br />
spaces. Everything is generated from the design<br />
team’s analysis and observation of the users’<br />
actual behaviors, with the aim for the design to<br />
ultimately deliver the best and most suitable<br />
solutions.
