Concrete walls help to construct and divide varying levels
of privacy between private and shared spaces. Due to the
relatively large size of the house, the apertures are designed
to maximize visual access between the living spaces while
retaining the inhabitants’ privacy.

The homeowners, a couple who work in advertising
and have a personal love for Tadao Ando’s architecture,
had their hearts set on exposed concrete
to be the primary element in the architecture of
their private home. The design would also need to
create a living area with all the necessary features
that would correspond to the two owners’ lifestyles
and preferences for privacy and peace. The functional
features would also have to help minimize
the owners’ need to commute through Bangkok’s
insufferable traffic.
Studio Krubka, the project’s architect, challenged
themselves with the given requirements, addressing
the design by reconsidering the sequence of how
the living spaces could be accessed. To create
the utmost level of privacy for the two owners’
personal living spaces, the sequence begins with
the entrance, which meets with the staircase
leading up to the second floor, where the bedroom
is located, without having to pass through any
other parts of the house. The solid concrete walls
clearly define and divide the private and common
spaces. Everything is generated from the design
team’s analysis and observation of the users’
actual behaviors, with the aim for the design to
ultimately deliver the best and most suitable
solutions.
