Concrete
Construct
Conception
Concrete has always adapted
itself to the social paradigm. Concrete
as a structure helps to bring
light into the peaceful and profound
religious space. Concrete
as a construction system help
freed the hierarchical system by
eliminating ornamentation. In the
post-war era, the raw and rough
nature of concrete, including its
locality, helped overcome the
scarcity of resources. Concrete is
a kaleidoscope and a legacy of a
society. It is truly an open material.
Free Flow
In designing a vacation home
in Khao Yai, Stu/D/O Architects
prioritized the relationship
between the architectural
structure and living areas
and the surrounding nature
by creating an outline in the
form of concrete walls that
surround the house. This
particular contour is intended to
flow freely, following the landscape’s
naturally curving lines.
Brutal Beauty:
From Concept
to Construction
The story of the bare concrete
works has a long history. But
interestingly, the popularity of
this concrete material still has
a spell for architects to apply it
to the architecture of each era
continuously until now. Building
with bare concrete is a simple
technology, but the design, its
details, and the work required
to achieve good quality work
are not. Often, debates arise
between architects, contractors,
and project owners concerning
aesthetics, standard quality,
and acceptance of the completed
work.
