An illuminated and festively decorated salon at Høistrup.
SCENE ONE.
WALKENDORFF. ELISABETH. EBBESEN. FLEMMING. KNIGHTS and
LADIES.
As the curtain goes up, a large magnificent ball is seen in full course. KNIGHTS and
LADIES perform different dances. Then some YOUNG GIRLS step forward, and during
an appropriate dance, formally present ELISABETH with the bridal wreath. She appears
undecided whether to receive it. FLEMMING observes her closely; EBBESEN also
has directed his attention towards her. Finally she takes the wreath, though with
trembling hands. The YOUNG GIRLS step back. The ball begins again, as the
