Optical Fluoride and Oxysulfide Ceramics: Preparation and Characterization 75
Figure 20. Characteristic microphotographs of ceramic samples: a - Gd 2O 2S:Nd (0,1wt.%), b -
Gd2O 2S:Nd (0,5wt.%), c - La 2O 2S:Nd (1wt.%).
The texture over the (001) plane in Gd2O2S: Nd 3+ samples is estimated by x-ray
diffraction and reveals the influence of the impurity concentration: the texture in (001) plane
get halved upon raising the Nd 3+ concentration from 0.1 to 0.5 wt. %, that corresponds to
reduction of quantity of grains oriented along this plane.
Further a spectroscopic characteristics of oxysulfide translucent optical ceramics which
can be perspective for 1-μm lasing with high quantum efficiency [48, 49] is given.
