depressed-ovoid. Fruit a few to many-seeded purple or very dark purple berry,<br />

arils pale-translucent covering approximately 3/4 <strong>of</strong> the seed. Seeds more or<br />

less compressed, <strong>of</strong>ten beaked at chalazal apex, reticulate-foveate. Germination<br />

epigeal. Chromosome numbers: n = 6 (12, 18). Commonly lacking c-<br />

glycosylflavones and usually containing flavonol 3-0-glycosides. Fig. 8.1.<br />

Key to the Species <strong>of</strong> <strong>Passiflora</strong> Supersection Cieca<br />

1. Stipules 2.2-11.3(-15.0) mm wide.<br />

2. Leaves peltate, deeply trilobed (0.42-)0.50-0.86 the distance from the leaf<br />

outline to the leaf base, base truncate, central lobe narrowed at the base; 4-11<br />

laminar nectaries present on the abaxial surface; petiolar glands present.<br />
