Seventy quantitative characters were initially evaluated for the Neighbor<br />

Joining analysis <strong>of</strong> the P. suberosa complex, but 25 were discarded due to lack<br />

<strong>of</strong> variability or lack <strong>of</strong> non-ambiguous gaps in the pattern <strong>of</strong> variation, making<br />

state delimitations difficult (see for example Fig. 3.7). Of the 45 remaining, six<br />

show no overlap in the range <strong>of</strong> variation <strong>of</strong> their states (see for example Fig.<br />

3.8). The remaining 39 quantitative characters were utilized even though they<br />

exhibit some arbitrariness in state delimitation (see for example Fig. 3.9).<br />

Seventy quantitative characters were initially evaluated for the Neighbor<br />

variability or lack <strong>of</strong> gaps in the pattern <strong>of</strong> variation, making state delimitations
