10.5b . . . <strong>and</strong> disengage duct from heater<br />

unit<br />

retaining nut. Slacken <strong>and</strong> remove the five<br />

support bracket retaining bolts <strong>and</strong> remove<br />

the bracket from the vehicle (see<br />

illustrations).<br />

8 Disconnect the air recirculation cable inner<br />

from the flap <strong>and</strong> free the cable outer from the<br />

blower motor.<br />

9 Prise out the stud securing the rear heater<br />

duct sleeve to the bottom of the heater unit,<br />

then slide the sleeve down to disengage it<br />

from the unit (see illustration).<br />

10 Disconnect the wiring connectors from<br />

the heater control panel, then remove the two<br />

upper heater unit retaining nuts <strong>and</strong> carefully<br />

manoeuvre the heater unit out of the vehicle<br />

(see illustrations).<br />

11 Remove the heater unit.<br />

12 Undo the screw securing the matrix outlet<br />

pipe bracket to the heater unit <strong>and</strong> remove the<br />

bracket (see illustration).<br />

13 Slacken <strong>and</strong> remove the two matrix cover<br />

retaining screws, then remove the cover <strong>and</strong><br />

withdraw the matrix from the heater unit (see<br />

illustrations).<br />

14 If the matrix is leaking, it is best to obtain<br />

a new or reconditioned unit as home repairs<br />

are seldom successful. If it is blocked, it can<br />

sometimes be cleared by reverse flushing<br />

using a garden hose. Use a proprietary<br />

radiator cleaning product if absolutely<br />

necessary.<br />
