MARTIN MEINANDER, CONIOPTERYGIDAE (NEUROPTERA) FROM MOROCCO i 01
hypandrium internum (hyi) is cup-shaped (fig. 2). There are three backwardly
directed processes, one ventral and one on each side. The parameres (pa) are
fused to the hypandrium and are prolonged into a somewhat downwardly
directed hook. The penis (p) is situated above the hypandrium. The gonarcus
(gs) is anterior to the penis. Anterior to the gonarcus there are three wing-like
structures, one ventral and two lateral. Posterior to the gonarcus there are
three slender processes, the dorsal one perhaps being the mediuncus (mu).
The ectoprocts (epr) are strongly sclerotized apically and dorsally, as seen in
fig. 1. They have, moreover, forewardly directed, strongly sclerotized ventral
margins. The strongly sclerotized parts of the ectoprocts are nowhere fused to
the inner genitalia.
I am not able to describe the female genitalia, because the single female
specimen was in very poor condition.
The species is easily seprated from A. loewi by its spotted wings. There
are also distinct differences in the wing venation mentioned above. The species
seems to be related to A. argentata; there are a number of minor differences,
however, and the species are easily separated by the genitalia.
Ecology: The specimens were captured on Junipenis sp. in a small forest
in a river valley.
A single male specimen and four female specimens of Conwentzia were captured
in Morocco. ZELENY (1961) made studies on the differences between
C, pineticola End, and C. psociformis Curt. After reference to his paper it was
easy to establish that the male specimen belonged to C. pineticola by investigating
the male genitalia but he reported that there are 31—33 antennal
segments in C. pineticola ?$ and 36—40 segments in C, psociformis ?? by the
Central European specimens. The numbers of segments in the Moroccan females
varies from 37 to 39, but there may be geographical variations and
I except that all the Moroccan specimens belong to the same species, C. pineticola.
The number of antennal segments in the male specimen is 33 and the
length of the fore-wing 3.0 mm. The length of the fore-wings of the female
specimens is 3.4—4,1 mm.
Ecology: In Europe the species is confined to conifers. In Morocco it was
captured on Pistacia atlantica and Tamarix sp.
