Notes on Cheilotrichia areolata (Lundstr.)
(Diptera, Limoniidae)

Cheilotrichia areolata (lyundstr.) seems to be a scarce species with decidedly
northern distribution, hitherto not known outside Fennoscandia. The species
was described in 1912 as Empeda areolata by LUNDSTRÖM (Acta Soc. Faun.
Flor. Fenn. 36, p. 61, figs. 66, 67, 70, 71) and has subsequently been recorded
from Sweden by EDWARDS (Insektfaunan inom Abisko Nationalpark, Vet.
Akad. Skr. Naturskyddsär. 16—18, p. 36, 1931) and from Norway by LYACKsciiEwiTz
(Tromsö Mus. Arsh., Nat. hist, avd., 53, p. 11, 1935). The following
specimens are hitherto known:

The geographical distribution as far as hitherto known is illustrated on the
accompanying map (fig. 1).
I am indebted to Dr. W. HACKMAN, Helsingfors, for the loan of one ^
of the type series (from Muonio) and the above mentioned ? from Ponoj (determined
by EUNDSTRÖM as Evipeda areolata but not recorded by him). Dr.
HACKMAN informs me that there is now no female in the type series. No holo-
