100 NOTUIvAE ENTOMOI.OGICAE XIJII, 1963
The meso- and metathorax are yellowish brown, each with a dark brown
spot on each side. The meso- and metascutellum are pale yellow. The thorax
is pale yellowish brown laterally. The legs are greyish brown.
The membranes of the wings (fig. 20) are testaceous. The thicker nerves
are dark brown, the thinner are concolorous with the membrane. The forewings
are broadly elongate with a rounded membrane. The cross-vein-like part
of Sca and the cross-vein between R^ and R2+3 gradate. The hind-wing is
relatively narrow. There is no cross-vein between R4.+5 and ÄI. Both pairs
of wings are almost free of wax. Length of the fore-wings 1.9—2.1 mm, of the
hind-wings 1.6—1.7 mm.
The abdomen is pale yellow, except for the genital segments, which are
brown.
Male genitalia (fig. 14, 16, 18): The hypandrium (hy) is rather narrow with
a distinct apical incision. The processus terminales (tpr) is rounded and the
processus laterales large and acute. The gonarcus (gs) is divided into two lateral
plates, which end in a long acute process. The entoprocessus (ent) is very long
and slender and proceeds from the under-border of the gonarcus. The apices
of the entoprocessus are fused into a ridge below the aedeagus, forming a
support bridge for the aedeagus. This character shows that this species belongs
to the same species group as C. aegyptiaca Withycombe and C. ailasensis n. sp.
The gonarcus is fused to the entoprocts (epr), which are weak and unsclerotized.
The parameres (pa) are slender, the processus apicalis (pap) appears as a hemispherical
membrane with a strong forwardly directed process. The bilobed penis
(p) is situated between the apices of the parameres; its apex is downwardly
curved.
Female genitalia (figs. 17, 19): The eighth tergite is narrow and the
secondary eighth sternite is rather large. The ninth tergite is narrow and
strongly pigmented. The ectoprocts (epr) are rather narrow and are weak
and unpigmeted. The gonapophyses laterales (gl) are fused, as in the following
species, into a bandlike plate. They are strongly pigmented. The subanale
is indistinct.
The species is separated from the allied South Africa species of the group,
C. bicuspis Tjeder and C. stuckenbergi Tjeder by its smaller size and characteristics
of the genitalia. The gonarcus of the male is more acute, the processus
laterales (Ipr) of the hypandirum (hy) is more prominent and acute, and the
apical incision is rather deep. The bandlike gonapophyses laterales (gl) separate
the females.
Ecology: The species has been collected on the halophytes of the Atlantic
coast of Morocco and on Jmtiperus close to the coast near Essaouira.
