SOMMER between August 22 and September 22. And
the festival full of fantasy will most certainly fulfill all
expectations!
Kunst & Kultur
There are many reasons for spending one’s summer vacation in Garmisch-
Partenkirchen, the multi-faceted cultural program is but one of them. Within
the framework of KULTurSOMMER (summer of culture) 2013, the visitors
are once more going to be guided to the municipality’s most beautiful venues
and fabulously entertained with charm & at high standards. To start with,
as a timeless work on the value of time, Michael Ende’s ‘Momo’ is going to be
honored: on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its publication, Momo’s
struggle with the Grey Gentlemen will be presented in a new theater version
with live music. The play is going to be staged in the fitting surroundings
of the Michael-Ende-Kurpark and it’s going to be part of the first ‘Michael-
Ende-Week’ (22 to 28 August). What’s also on the program: an international
symposium, a special exhibition with Ende-illustrations by Friedrich Hechelmann,
literature walks, philosophy for children and much, much more.

Excitement, spook & games
Another one of the coming KULTurSOMMER’s highlights will be the premiere
of Harald Helfrich’s open-air drama ‘Der Wildschütz Jennerwein’ which
will be shown from 29 August onwards at Berggasthof Panorama. The
legendary story of the freedom-loving Wildschütz (poacher) is produced as a
thrilling alpine western – along the traditions of exacting Bavarian popular
theater. And for the younger audience Otfried Preußler’s ‘The Little Ghost’
is going to spook on ‘Bühne U1’ from 14 September. Another highlight to
look forward to is Werdenfelser Almsingen (‘Werdenfels’ alpine song’), Late
Night Swing at Kaffeehaus Krönner, the popular ‘Bavarian Tuesdays’ with
popular actors and cabaret artists, exhibitions, readings and so on and so
forth. So be sure you have enough time for your culture vacation in Garmisch-
Partenkirchen!
