L.L. ⁄ Do technical gimmicks such as the modern webcam system attract new<br />
target groups?<br />
K.S. ⁄ Our new, modern 360° panoramic cameras are mostly an additional<br />
service for our customers, triggering emotions and bringing back a certain<br />
longing for the mountains around <strong>Garmisch</strong>-<strong>Partenkirchen</strong> and Grainau<br />
before the holiday even starts. Apart from that they also offer live images<br />
24 hours a day which facilitates the planning phase for a hike and makes<br />
observing the current weather situation a lot easier, too. Many of our guests<br />
check out the webcams before breakfast at their hotel and then they use this<br />
information to decide where to go for their day trip. Ever since we installed<br />
the webcams this service has been accepted well by our customers and meanwhile,<br />
in the age of smartphones, free Wi-Fi hotspots and UMTS connections<br />
it’s become somewhat essential for every modern business.<br />
Sport & Freizeit<br />
L.L. ⁄ Are there any new development or lift projects planned you can tell us<br />
about?<br />
K.S. ⁄ As a mountain railway business our requirements in connection<br />
with safety and comfort are great. And over the course of time our guests’<br />
expectations have risen, too. Which is why, during the past years, we have<br />
thoroughly modernized the ski resort <strong>Garmisch</strong>-Classic and invested 9.5 m<br />
Euro at Zugspitze and for a new 6-seater chair lift at Wetterwandeck. Right<br />
now our guests’ desire to reach the mountains fast and safely makes us think<br />
about rebuilding the Eibsee-cable car.<br />
L.L. ⁄ Would you say that, in the mountain railway sector, traditionalism,<br />
sustainability and openness towards zeitgeist are compatible?<br />
K.S. ⁄ As a modern service provider it is always our goal to authentically<br />
combine tradition and modernity. On the one hand we offer events like our<br />
nostalgic tours with the 1930s Bavarian Zugspitzbahn’s original locomotives<br />
or brass music festivals and events with Bavarian specialties as tangible<br />
tradition, on the other hand we do act as a modern business when it comes to<br />
marketing and sales, occupying ourselves with new markets like no other. In<br />
this respect the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn tries to network and use nationwide<br />
as well as international cooperation in order to create ever new opportunities.<br />
There’s a reason why 1.1 m people from all over the world visit us each year!<br />
